Aadhaar Card – PAN Card : If you have both PAN and Aadhaar cards, be aware of the government’s new measure to protect your data. Certain websites have been blocked, so never share your information on them.
In a significant step, the central government has blocked several websites that were exposing sensitive personal information of Indian citizens, including Aadhaar and PAN card details. This was revealed in an official government statement. The Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In), which operates under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, identified security vulnerabilities in these websites, leading to the government’s decision to block them.
The statement says, “The Ministry has learned that some websites are leaking sensitive personal information of Indian citizens, including Aadhaar and PAN card details. The government takes this issue very seriously, prioritizing strong cybersecurity measures and the protection of personal data. As a result , swift action has been taken to block these websites.”
The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has lodged a complaint with the relevant police authorities for violating the law that prohibits the public display of Aadhaar-related information, as outlined in the Aadhaar Act of 2016.
Under the IT Act, any affected party can file a complaint and seek compensation by approaching the adjudicating authority. State IT Secretaries have been designated as adjudicating officers. Last week, a cybersecurity researcher alleged that Star Health Insurance executives sold the data of 3.1 million customers.
